We appreciate that patients cannot know in advance if they are going to be ill, particularly children, so emergency slots are left free in each surgery list for emergency appointments. If you phone for an urgent appointment, please make this clear to the receptionist and she will do her best to fit you in. If this is not possible, you will, of course, be seen at Carterknowle.
How to make our Services work for you
Our appointments system is designed so that routine appointments can be booked up to one month in advance. Approximately one third of our available appointments are held back as "same day" appointments and are bookable on the day for patients with acute illnesses. Obviously all appointments are limited in number and it may be that all the same day appointments have been taken by the time you call the surgery. In this instance, if your problem is urgent, you may be offered an appointment with our Nurse Practitioner or your details put on the list for a doctor to call you back. The doctor has some emergency appointments available and may book you into one of these if deemed necessary.
You can help us to decide which of these alternatives is most appropriate for you by answering the receptionists questions as simply and clearly as you can. Our aim is that all patients with an acute problem will have a contact with a healthcare professional on the day of their call.
Conversely, to help us with this, if your problem is not acute or your appointment is for a routine matter, please do not request an appointment on the day of your call but pre-book in advance.
